MSU Extension Posted on March 25, 2026 | Last Updated on March 25, 2026

Adults in Lenawee County have an opportunity to gain valuable skills to support youth facing mental health challenges through the Virtual Youth Mental Health First Aid certification course, led by Michigan State University Extension.

This evidence-based training is designed for adults ages 18 and older who interact with young people, including parents, caregivers, educators, coaches, and community members. Participants will learn how to recognize the signs of a mental health challenge or crisis, how to respond effectively, and how to connect youth with appropriate support and resources.

The course includes two hours of self-paced online pre-work, followed by a six-hour instructor-led training conducted virtually via Zoom. Upon completion, participants will be certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid.

Thanks to funding from the Great Lakes Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Regional Center, this training is offered at no cost to participants.

Pre-registration is required and can be completed online.

Participants may choose from one of the following training sessions:

  • April 14 & 16, 2026 | 5:30 – 8:30 PM
    Registration deadline: April 7, 2026
  • May 26 & 28, 2026 | 5:30 – 8:30 PM
    Registration deadline: May 12, 2026

This training is a valuable opportunity to build confidence and skills in supporting the mental well-being of youth in our community.
