[ARCHIVED] Volunteers Needed to Support Older Adults Across Lenawee County

person with heart over heart

The Lenawee Department on Aging is currently seeking compassionate community members who are willing to share their time and talents to support local older adults. Several meaningful volunteer opportunities are available across the county, each offering a chance to make a direct and positive impact.

At Daybreak Adult Day Services, volunteers are needed any afternoon to spend one-on-one time with participants. The greatest need is on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Volunteers might play cards, enjoy conversation, walk the halls, or even play a friendly game of ping pong. These simple interactions provide companionship and enrichment that truly brighten someone’s day.

In Hudson, a temporary opportunity is available for April. Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to help deliver home-delivered meals while a regular driver is away. This short-term commitment ensures that homebound older adults continue receiving nutritious meals and wellness checks without interruption.

The Onsted Senior Center is also looking for volunteers on Wednesdays and Thursdays to assist with room setup. Responsibilities include arranging and taking down tables and chairs to prepare for daily programs and activities. This behind-the-scenes role helps create a welcoming and functional space for participants.

In addition to these specific needs, regular volunteer meal delivery drivers are also needed. Currently, 1–2 drivers are needed in Hudson to cover rural routes, and 5–10 drivers are needed in the Adrian area. Meal delivery volunteers play a vital role in supporting independence, nutrition, and social connection for older adults throughout the community.

Volunteering with the Department on Aging is flexible, rewarding, and deeply appreciated. Whether you can help once a week, once a month, or for a short-term need, your time can make a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults across Lenawee County.
