The Lenawee County Sheriff's Office Mounted Division is made up of an all volunteer group led by Lieutenant David Aungst. Currently there are 18 members who are active with the group and participate on a monthly basis in activities. Summertime is usually the busiest time of the year for us as we participate in several parades around the County. The biggest event is the Lenawee County Fair where many members volunteer dozens of hours to help keep the fair a safe place. The Division is called for certain off road incidents such as searching for missing persons or rounding up loose animals that could be a potential road hazard.
To be a member the Mounted Division, you must be at least 18 years of age, have a clean record and be sponsored by a current member. You must obtained a CPL license so that you may carry a gun as you will be in full uniform during events and while on your horse. Training is provided though the Department for police related issues, but you should already have a lot of horse experience before applying.
It is required that you own your horse and your own horse trailer with a pulling vehicle all of which are legally licensed and in good shape. The horses and equipment are maintained by the volunteer who owns them and the Department does not pay any fees associated as this is all volunteer on the member's part. Certain requirements apply to the horse and equipment and if interested please contact Sergeant Conway Linger at 517-263-0524 x2177 mailto:david.aungst@lenawee.mi.us or any other Mounted Division member.
