The Maurice Spear Campus Detention Unit is a 26-bed facility that provides safety, structure, and security to residents of a boys and girls wing detention center. MSC services in-county and out-of-county adjudicated youth.
School and Enrichment Groups
MSC Detention has a full curriculum accredited school through the LISD and summer enrichment groups, to help successfully transition residents back into the community.
Level System
MSC Detention unit operates on a level system that encourages and motivates residents towards positive changes. Privileges are earned by the residents based on the residents level.
Group Meetings
The residents also participate in group meetings during the week to set and evaluate goals, problem solve, and petition for advance in a level system. The residents may attend Alcoholics Anonymous weekly and 4-H meetings monthly.
S.T.E.P. Program
MSC gives various educational opportunities through S.T.E.P. (Short Term Educational Program). Step is a 4-week rotating criteria set up for residents to get the most out of their short stay in detention. This program is intended to give residents valuable information on topics such as:
- Dollars and Sense
- Health
- Personal Psychology
- Substance Abuse
