The Lenawee County Sheriff's Canine Division is comprised of two (2) teams of handlers with cross trained German Shepherds.  The Department's Canines are trained in tracking, area searching, property recovery, handler protection, building searches, criminal apprehension, explosives detection, and narcotics detection.  The Sheriff's Canine Teams are available and on-call to any police agency in the County who requests them.  The dogs, also, provide back up for the K-9 officer on all types of complaints.

Throughout the year, the Canine Teams have assisted in finding lost children, injured people, and criminal suspects who have left the scene of a crime.  They have, also, assisted in a number of narcotic searches during drug raids for several police agencies, including the Lenawee County Narcotics Team (O.M.N.I.), and they are responsible for the seizure and recovery of money and thousands of dollars worth of hidden drugs.  The Division is called upon by various school districts throughout the County, providing assistance with narcotic and explosives searches in upper grade level schools and school parking lot areas.
