The Lenawee County Sheriff's Honor Guard Unit is made up of 10 volunteer officers from all divisions within the Sheriff's Department. The unit was formed in January 2004 for the purpose of providing appropriate military style honors for the Lenawee County Sheriff's Deputies slain in the line of duty and those who have retired. This unit has been in attendance at funeral services for fallen officers in several states since that date. The Honor Guard unit has performed duties such as posting of the colors at civic events, visiting senators, as well as attending parades throughout the county.
The Lenawee County Sheriff's Honor Guard Unit has been trained in casket watch, flag folding, firing party, and color guard.
The unit posted colors and employed a firing party for the Police Memorial. The unit attended the funeral of Mason J. Samorski Oak Park Police. The unit posted guards for casket watch for Sgt. William Brackeny (Ret.) Lenawee County Sheriff's Dept., Richard W. Bailey Lenawee County Commissioner, and Steven Giroux, Cambridge Twp. Fire Dept. The unit was one of the Color Guard for the American Veterans traveling tribute at Michigan International Speedway. A tribute was also done for Officer Tom Goodwin from Goshen Police Dept. in Goshen IN.
Two (2) of the members are instructors at the Goshen Police Department Honor Guard camps and D.F.L. Honor Guard camp. They have gone to Goshen IN, Ingham Co, MI, Wyandotte MI, and Hagerstown MD. They also have trained police and fire in fighters military style honors for those slain in the line of duty and those who have retired.
