LENAWEE COUNTY
SHERIFF'S OFFICE
EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM
2008

SUBMITTED BY LIEUTENANT MICHAEL CRESWELL

The Lenawee County Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.) is a multi-jurisdictional special weapons and tactics comprised of eighteen (18) officers from the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office, the Adrian Police Department and the Tecumseh Police Department.  The Team is supervised by Team Commander Lieutenant Michael Creswell from the Sheriff's Office.  The Team, also, has seven (7) officers from County agencies trained in Hostage Negotiations assigned to the Crisis Negotiations Team (C.N.T.).

The Emergency Response Team is created on the premise that certain high-risk incidents are better handled by a team of personnel that have been specially trained and equipped to improve police response to certain special threats.  The E.R.T. is trained in automatic and semi-automatic shoulder weapons, handheld weapons, less lethal weapons deployment, chemical weapon deployment-receipt, building search, high risk warrant service and close quarter combat.  Team members are required to be flexible in work hours and unit demands, maintain a high degree of firearms proficiency, and possess a high degree of physical ability.

Situations that may require Emergency Response Team intervention include, but are not necessarily limited to, Barricaded Suspect Situations, Hostage Situations, Sniper Situations, High Risk Search/Arrest Warrant Service, High Risk Apprehension, Personal Protection, Civil Disorder, and Special Threats Situations.

The E.R.T., also, assists the O.M.N.I. team and other police agencies with high risk entries into several residences to execute search warrants for wanted subjects, narcotics, or both.  The E.R.T. assists on these due to the high probability and information that the subject(s) are armed with weapons and pose a threat to officers and the public.
