Commissioner Bio:
Commissioner Van Doren is currently serving his third year as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. As Chair, he is an ex-official member of each standing committee of the Board and all sub-committees while serving as Chair of Rules and Appointments. Additionally he holds the following positions: Chair - Lenawee Economic Development Corporation of Lenawee, a 501 (c) (3) corporation of county government; Executive Board of the Lenawee Economic Development Corporation (Chamber); Emergency 911 District Board member; Airport Commission member; Chair – Brownfield Authority and Hospital Finance Authority; Revolving Loan Fund member; Community Mental Health Authority Board; GIS Policy Committee; Homeland Security and Local Emergency Panning Committee; Parks and Recreation Committee; Mid-South Substance Abuse Commission and Program Committee; Region 2 Panning Commission and Region 2 Audit and Personnel Committee; Retirement Administration Committee; South Central Michigan Works Workplace Development and Consortium Board; he is a member of the Labor Negotiations Team and serves as liaison to the Community Corrections Board and Road Commission.
Spending a fair amount of time in Lansing lobbying the state legislature, Jim has been an active member of the Michigan Association of Counties Criminal Justice Committee since becoming a County Commissioner. As the county's representative to the National Association of Counties he travels each spring to Washington to meet with our Representatives and Senators on Capital Hill to discuss issues pertaining to county government.
Jim has been actively involved in the Lenawee County community all of his life serving on many community boards and philanthropic organizations. He currently is the sitting Chairman of the Bixby Medical Center. Jim and his wife, Pam, live in the Irish Hills.
