Welcome to summer,                                                                           July 2006

It seems as though we are in the midst of a real Michigan summer. Hot – humid days, hot humid nights, nasty storms, and a whole lot of rain. Last quarter was all about mowing: cutting all the grass for the first time, finding all the chunks of old asphalt, rocks, and twine, the bumps, humps, and stumps in the ground, and just how big the airport really is now.

Am working on getting a new plow truck for the airport with the help of a grant from the state. A single axle dump truck with a belly and front blade appears to be the best value for the money. This will be put out to bid in the near future. Another grant for the crack sealing of TWY ´B' and part of TWY ´A' along with the painting of TWY ´B' has been accepted with an undetermined start time.

The Bureau of Aeronautics has also approved a grant to complete the fencing of the airport property. A new gate is to be added between the FBO and the Terminal building also. The state moved up the fencing grant to FY06 and the budget got real tight real quick. We are still on track though and all planned maintenance projects will continue.

The first MIS race weekend has come and gone. Although the number of aircraft to overnight at ADG was less than usual, three 30 seat Brasilia's and other aircraft utilized the airport several times over the weekend. A big THANK YOU to Joe Malak and his crew at Wings of Lenawee for having the FBO in top notch shape and doing a wonderful job of accommodating the pilots and passengers. I also need to recognize the maintenance team at the county who put forth extra effort to get the grounds looking exceptionally nice.

The steps to the back door of the Terminal have been replaced and handrails added for safety. The installation of edging and mulch by Adrian Lawn and Landscape has really enhanced the appearance of the Terminal. Weed killer was also applied to all hard surfaces around the airport. The PAPI's have been flown and certified by the FAA.

Representatives from the Bureau of Aeronautics, Mead & Hunt, Kalin Construction, and I toured the airport in May and agreed that the construction phase of the airport expansion project has been completed. Being puzzled by the half-rate markings on the RWY, I checked the Advisory Circular and sure enough, they are FAA approved markings.

Your October invoice may look a little different as improvements continue to be made in ADG's accounting process. Entering Accounts Payable into the county's AS-400 system began last quarter and Accounts Receivable will hopefully be switched over sometime this month. These changes will make it easier for the Accounting Dept. and myself to track and audit all airport accounts.

Thank you for your continued support,

Dave Vinton
