The focus of the Tobacco Reduction Coalition is to:
Encourage youth to lead a tobacco-free life.
Increase and support worksites and restaurants that are smoke-free.
Link adults with quit smoking resources.
Emerging Tobacco Products
The tobacco companies are creatively designing new tobacco products and non-tobacco nicotine products that are being marketed as alternatives to smoking. These products are portrayed as less harmful than smoking, however, there is no evidence to indicate that these products are safer.
Results from a community scan conducted in Lenawee County indicate that these new tobacco and non-tobacco nicotine products are being sold and marketed in various venues within the community. Community Scan data indicated emerging tobacco products, such as SNUS, are available at 71% of the retailers that are located within 1,000 feet of Lenawee County Schools. Additionally, data indicate that e-cigarettes are found in 29% of the retailers located within 1,000 feet of Lenawee County Schools. Many of the emerging tobacco products are available in various flavors that make them more appealing to youth. Review emerging tobacco products (PDF).
