About the Program
S.M.I.L.E. stands for Start Making It Livable for Everyone, and it is an educational program for separating or divorcing parents with children under the age of 18. The program covers topics such as:
Developmental reactions to divorce
Helping children adjust to divorce
How Divorce affects children and parents
Most participants respond after the program with positive feedback, stating that they learned a great deal from S.M.I.L.E. The S.M.I.L.E. Program includes a video where children of divorce speak to an interviewer. The program also includes presentation pieces provided by the Circuit Court Judge, The Friend of the Court and the Lenawee Intermediate School District.
